First-class acoustics

The Concert Hall and the Hans Huber Hall are two outstanding venues, each with quite different characteristics.

Music hall: World-famous

The music hall of the Stadtcasino Basel enjoys an internationally high reputation due to its excellent room acoustic quality. The hall was opened in 1876 for over 1400 people. Musicians and listeners alike enjoy a brilliant sound image with a homogeneous fusion of tones. The hall thus conveys to visitors the inimitable feeling of a concert experience enveloped in sound.
MÜLLER-BBM was responsible for the acoustics of the entire renovation. The historical building fabric was to be preserved as far as possible. However, many components had to be newly integrated, such as the complete hall floor, the hall seating and a mobile podium for the orchestra. High-quality windows were installed in the historic openings of the façade so that daylight can once again reach the inside and all traffic noise is kept outside. A new ventilation and air conditioning system provides very quiet comfort.

But why does the music hall have its incomparable acoustics?
A compact hall geometry and the rich decoration with pilasters and stucco work, which results in an optimal dispersion of the sounds, provide a lot of space and time for an ideal sound fusion. The currently measured reverberation times as well as the other room-acoustic criteria meet the highest sound demands even after the renovation.

Hans Huber Hall: Optimum for chamber music

In contrast to the music hall, the Hans Huber Hall is rather plainly designed. With its equally excellent room acoustics and a capacity of 420 seats, it is an ideal venue for chamber music interpretations.
