The Stadtcasino Basel is deeply indebted to the association; in particular, of course, to the numerous donors.

New organ behind historic facade

The two companies Metzler Orgelbau and Orgelbau Klahre worked together on the new organ for the music hall, which was completed in summer 2020, just in time for the reopening of the Stadtcasino Basel. One of the main difficulties was the lack of available space; after all, the 1905 case is a listed building. The listed facade was restored in an exemplary manner by the firm Fontana & Fontana and shines in new old splendour.

The new organ offers a rich palette of sound with finely differentiated individual voices full of character. It has 51 stops, two extensions and eight transmissions in the main organ, as well as five sounding stops in the wind-dynamic manual; this gives the organ a present and room-filling sound - the intonation is lively and the stops have pronounced register character, which never tires the ear. The wind-dynamic manual can be operated intuitively and adds an additional and entirely new dimension to the sound possibilities of this organ. Despite the lack of space, the instrument has an impressive and extremely differentiated basic voice palette, which also allows quiet accompaniments in the main work.
